I spent most of my life watching Madonna reinvent herself.
What I think Madonna understands about evolving as a person, is that it promotes personal and professional growth, keeps her relevant, and sparks her creativity.
Each time Madonna has re-created her brand, she has never veered from her personality or purpose – she’s just changed the way it’s presented to her fans. She relishes the freedom of expression she has fought for and challenged all of us to use our own.
She has put out 14 albums over the last 40 years, each with their own personality, Madonna has defined and redefined her role as a pop star, musician, and woman. She’s been a:
- Punky bubblegum pop star
- Spiritual guru
- Rebel
- Erotic mistress
- American dream girl
- Disco diva
Regardless of your opinion of Madonna (or her recent plastic surgery), she has shown women around the world that we don’t have to follow the rules and we shouldn’t apologize for it.
What would happen if you reinvented yourself to reach your fullest potential? Does the current version of yourself allow you to grow?
What kind of impact could you have? What else could you be doing with your time?
Signs Your Ready for a Change
There are a number of sign that it’s time for you to reinvent yourself. I think the strongest one I feel is my gut instinct. I know something isn’t right or that my current life isn’t satisfying my needs. My biggest reinvention was from employee to business owner – an even my life as a business owner has changed many times over the years.
Here are seven signs you might be ready to remake your life:
- Meaningless relationships: You’re surrounded by people who surface-level connections or more like acquaintances. You don’t feel comfortable turning to them for help and you can’t relate to their goals or lifestyle.
- Frequent daydreaming: You find yourself thinking about what your life would be like if you were a different person or made different choices.
- Comparison: Your envy and jealousy are killing you. You see what others are doing or what they have – and you want it, too. You want more from your life.
- Stuck in a rut: You’re bored and you know you are just going through the motions.
- The thrill is gone: You’re no longer excited about what you do or your accomplishments.
- Disconnect: You’re living a life that doesn’t feel like yours or following a path that doesn’t align with who you truly are what you want.
- No growth or learning opportunities: The moment you stop growing and learning, stop pushing your boundaries – that’s the moment you start stagnating. Clues this is happening: a lack of fulfillment and happiness.
Change is Scary, But Necessary
Reinvention is like deciding to repaint your living room, only to realize you have actually built an entirely new house that’s still somehow… you.
This metamorphosis isn’t just about changing colors, it’s about embracing the growth that harmonizes your insides with your outsides. It’s about letting go of what no longer serves you.
Does this scare you? You’ve already reinvented in yourself at least a few times by this point your life.
- You probably don’t wear the same clothes or fashion you wore in high school.
- If you are a parent, you have more than likely changed your entire life to revolved around your kids and their needs.
- You have switched jobs – even if it’s just a different employer. Each job and company comes with its own culture. You had to do some changing to fit in to this new role.
At the end of the day, you are still you for the most part, right?
Reinvention doesn’t mean you need a whole new personality or become someone else. Reinvention is about discovering and aligning with your authentic self.
The Magic of Reinvention
How does this magical transformation happen? By clicking your heels and saying “Madonna” three times. Just kidding! Instead add these four things to your recipe for a new life:
- Break free from old pattens: While doing the same ol’ thing every day can be comforting because it’s predictable, it also doesn’t allow an opening for growth, inspiration, innovation, or fun. These things are crucial to your success if you are business owner or a leader. (Or want to be one!)How to do this: Prioritize what truly matters to you. It will help you invest your energy in activities that fulfill you and make you happy.
- Cultivate resilience and flexibility: The process of reinvention teaches you to be more resilient and flexible – traits that are essential to personal growth. You learn to bounce back from setbacks, and pivot your strategy without losing momentum. How to do this:Embrace a growth mindset. This mindset encourages continuous learning and adaptation.
- Enhance your self-awareness: Reinvention forces you to ask the tough questions – like “what do I truly want?” or “what color would my spirit animal be?” Asking and answering these questions helps you understand yourself, while guiding you toward your true self. How to do this: Set boundaries that allow you the space to explore yourself without the interference of other people’s opinions.
- Unleash creativity and innovation: When you reinvent yourself, you give yourself permission to experiment, to fail, and to try again. Not all of Madonna’s reinventions were a hit! With each attempt, you learn. And, you foster an environment for yourself to be creative and innovate. How to do this: Find joy and satisfaction with your life. Keep your mind and eyes open to the different possibilities that create happiness and fulfillment. You may find them where you least expect them.
